Tanuki Sunset v1.2 Patch Notes

Hey everyone! As we mentioned in some of the comments earlier today, this new build includes improvements to several different areas. More specifically; the gameplay, leader-board input and score manipulation fixes, and audio. Our main intention with this update was to address difficulty problems. We hope this revised submission addresses most of the issues we've received through your feedback. Thanks again for playing the game and being involved in it's development!

Here are the changes:

  • Added a new gameplay mechanic: Fakie. At any point riding while grounded, tapping the left joystick down will spin your longboard 180 degrees so that Tanuki is now facing you. Keep in mind that the turning controls for the board remain the same and not mirrored, as we didn't want the players to be discouraged from using the trick. Use this trick to slow down a little before a tight curve, just be careful not to trigger it too late, as it takes some time for the board to spin. It is not currently scored as a trick, but this might change in the future.

  • The camera should feel a little more smooth, especially while turning tight corners and while spinning in mid-air.

  • The curves for turning normally and while drifting have been adjusted dramatically, players who got used to the sensitivity of the controls might need to readjust their gameplay style. We hope these values are accessible for more people to enjoy the game as we intended.

  • The leader-board name input is not an input field anymore. It's now closer to a retro console interface where you select each letter individually. Mouse interaction is not supported yet. Use the WASD keys or the arrow keys along with the space-bar to navigate it.

  • The leader-board name input now triggers every time you beat your high-score. In case more people than one are playing on the same device.

  • The background music no longer stops when the player dies. We found that listening to the beginning of a song over and over can distract from the experience we wanted our players to have.

  • The WebGL version of the game now explains to the players that leader-board submissions are not supported on that specific platform. Please download and use the standalone version of the game to submit your high-scores.

  • Fixed a bug where the player could remain static on a ledge accumulating potentially unlimited points.

In the future we are currently thinking on focusing more on layering mechanics on top of our gameplay loop to make the game more engaging in the long-term. Please let us know if there's a feature you believe would fit, we would love to listen to what you think!

We are also working with indie musicians and composers to bring more original tracks into the  game. If you are a composer or you know someone who would want to be part of this project please don't hesitate to contact us through our email or our Twitter account: https://twitter.com/SquidSquadDev

Thank you all so much for playing Tanuki Sunset!
